Hello, I m concerned that my doctor wants to put me on simvastatin when my cholesterol reading is 201. Never had high cholesterol , and it has risin slightly in 6 months from 167. I don t consider this high, am I wrong? I would rather control something with diet and excercise than start taking pills. I m 52 ,never smoked weight is 230 at 6ft. when i saw my doc last week my bp was 133/75. Your thoughts please..

Hi,
From history it seems that your cholesterol level is maximum of normal.
I do not think you may require statin group of medicine.
Only requires is some control in fat and carbohydrate diet and regular exercise like slow walking, swimming for about 30-40 minutes a day for 5 days in a week.
Avoid sedentary life.
With diet and exercise your cholesterol will be under control.
Ok and take care.
