High Vaginal Discharge After Taking NorLevo, Sometimes Pinkish. Why Is It ?

Hi, I took NorLevo 3 days ago. A few hours after taking it I began to experience higher levels of vaginal dishcharge, the first bit was pinkish as if it had blood in it. Since then, I have been still been experiencing more discharge than normal--sometime it is white, but other times it is brownish. I have taken emergency contraceptive in the past but have not experienced any side effects that I remember. I am not having any other symptoms (no burning, itching, etc) but am concerned about this discharge. It is not listed explicitly as a side effect on the paperwork, but I a google search shows that many people have asked about a similar issue. I would like to know if this higher discharge and color is likely related to the NorLevo or indicative of a problem. Thank you.

OBGYN 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query.

Emergency pill can cause side effects like inter-menstrual spotting, the pink color you have seen can be due to this.
Refer: http://srsree.blogspot.in/2012/08/emergency-contraceptive-pill-short-term.html
Progesterone which will be usually present in higher amounts in emergency pill can alter the vaginal discharge, that can be one cause for increased vaginal discharge.
If the same thing repeats better to consult gynecologist once to rule out factors like pelvic infection with cervical erosion etc.
Better to avoid frequent usage of emergency pills as that can lead to complications.
These should be at-least 2 months gap between two pills.

Take care.
