History Of IBS. Have Constipation, Blood In Stools. Recommended Diet?

My brother has a long history of IBS. He recently went to Mexico and upon returning 10 days ago has had severe constipation. He also had a moderate amt. of frank bleeding in his stools X1 while on vacation. His physician, Family Practice, has advised a CT scan rather than a colonsocopy at this time d/t the inflammation of his bowels. My question is, what type of diet would be recommended for him at this time?

hi
as you have told that your brother is a known patient of ibs.he usually will have diarrhoea and constipation as disease manifestation
first you should know that its not a patological disease its a functional disease. he does not have any lesion in his intestines. there is no specific treatment or medication for it. only lifestyle modification and diet modification is needed.
1) take food rich high fibres. it will help from prevention of constipation
2) avoid spicy food.
3) heve meals at regular intervals. avoid skipping meals or long gaps in between meals
4) avoid caffeine containg liqids
5) avoid tea and coffee
6) restrict fresh friuts intake. have max of to three
7) some of then will have allergy to wheat, barley, dairy products. if there are any such thing then avoid eating them
8) avoid smoking and alcohol
9) have oat based meals.
10) probiotics may help sometimes
if you follow this diet strictly then its unlikely that he might have any replapse

wish you and your brother good health
