History Of Stroke. Taking Simvastatin. Have Erectile Dysfunction Due To Drug. How To Stop Medicine?
my husband had a stroke about 5yrs ago. His Dr. put him on simvastatin 40mg. even though none of the tests showed he had high cholesterol. they could not explain why he had a mini stroke. Now he wants off the statin he has ed because of this drug and has noticed the side effects could also harm his liver. He wants to just stop this drug I told him NO. what should he do?
It is true that simvastatin can cause erectile dysfunction, though it is not common. I feel that rather than stopping the drug himself, your husband should inform his doctor about the adverse effect he is suffering from simvastatin. His doctor can then review his lipid profile tests over the last five years since the stroke and decide whether to stop the drug or lower the dosage or to change to another agent. Doing this under the doctor's supervision will ensure that there are no harmful consequences and his lipid profile does not get deranged. The doctor may also advise your husband about dietary modification and lifestyle changes that can help him.
Hope this helps you. Best wishes.
