History Of Ulcerative Colitis. Have Fatigue, Colostomay. Taking Pentasa. Want To Stop Medicines

Hi; I was diganoised with ulcerative colitis in 2002. I had a server case and had surgery. I no longer have a large bowel and live with a colostomy. I was medicated free..until I got sick again. I was fatigue, nausea, cramps in my stomach and blood in my stool which all started in June 2011. After many test I was diganoised with ulcerative Crohns in Sept. 2012. I've been in and out of the hospital for blockages or dehydration. 3 weeks ago I spent a week in the hospital because I passed so much blood through my colostomy I passed out a couple times and ended up with a blood transfusion 3 days later. I am still fatigue and have missed work due to not having energy. My mind wants to go but my body doesn't take me there. Currently I am on medications, pentasa,, humira, pms dipenhydramine, alendronate, b12 shots, domperidone mal, vitamin d, calcium and since last May 9mg of enticort. I want to stop all medications other than my vitamins for I don't see a difference since I've been on them is it wise to do that?

Hi and thanks for using this panel for your health concerns.
I am so sorry about what you are experiencing.

Stopping medications needs to be considered carefully. At times, we may not see the great benefit of all our drugs and feel like abandoning. Though you have not been feeling very great though on these drugs, I believe they have prevented the condition from rapidly deteriorating and also preventing you from other conditions that may have developed as a consequence of your ulcerative Crohns.

Drugs have the following main functions....Treat your condition, prevent deterioration, prevent onset of complications, improve quality of life etc just to cite a few. So at times, though you may not see the big change in terms of taking the drugs, you cannot immediately see the benefits in terms of maintaining the severity or preventing further worsening of the disease.

Please, consider the decision of stopping your medications seriously.
I will like you to talk with your doctor and understand the exact importance of each drug you are receiving. Also, ask him to tell you how each has supposedly helped you. This will help you a lot at this time when you feel like stopping the medications.

Please feel free to come back to me.
I wish you good health.
And please, don't stop your medications without talking to the prescribing doctor.
