Hoarseness In Voice, Slight Dry Cough, Weight Loss. At Which Stage Of Cancer Do They Spit Blood ?
HI, My brother is having some hoarseness in voice(he has to clear his throat many times while speaking), slight dry cough and lost 6-7 kgs weight in the last 2 months. He is undergoing tests today. I am quite afraid now. I hope nothing is serious. At which stage in cancer do patients start spitting blood when they cough?
Hello. I'm sorry your brother is having problems. Hemoptysis (coughing blood) is often associated with cancers that are quite advanced. Bleeding from a tumor is an indication that the tumor has become erosive or necrotic -- that is, it is invading nearby blood vessels or has outgrown its own blood supply -- both of which are signs of advanced cancers. However, just because someone isn't coughing blood doesn't necessarily mean his or her cancer isn't advanced. Tumors that are deep within the lung and fairly distant from large blood vessels may not cause hemoptysis until very late in the course of the disease.
Now, it's also important to remember that coughing and weight loss are not necessarily due to cancer. Your brother might be suffering from an infection (e.g., tuberculosis) or an autoimmune disease (e.g., sarcoidosis). His tests today should shed some light on his situation.
I hope he does well.
the symptoms may have occurred in acute laryngitis but here concern is chronicity and particularly the loss of wt. which usually occurs in malignancy/cancers.
SPITTING OF BLOOD HAS GOT NO CORRELATION WITH CANCER STAGING.
you must go for CT scan of the chest....if some mass lesion comes then guided biopsy of the lesion.
the histopath report and stage will guide the further treatment.....
best wishes
