How HbA1C And Oral Glucose Plasma Tests Can Give Different Results ?
I WAS DOING TESTS FOR THE LAST ONE YEAR TO DETECT DIABETES . ALWAYS I USED TO DO FASTING AND ORAL GLUCOSE PLASMA TEST ; AND THE RESULT WAS THAT I DIDN T HAVE DIABETES. BUT YESTERDAY I DID HBA1C AND FOUND I HAD 7.8% WHICH MEANS DIABETES. WHY THE TESTS ARE DIFFERENT?
HI MR arvindam Well come to HCM
HBA1C is usually done to see the over all control Of DM in diabetic pt on medication.
Usually HBA1C around 6.5 to 7 is cosidered to be good control. It reflects over all dm level of last 90 days. Even today to diagnose DM GTT is reliable and cost effctiv.HBA1C is not even used to titrate the dose
Hi
Welcome to HCM
Read your prob,if your HbA1C is 7.8 ,it means you have been suffering from diabetes. your previous blood sugure tests are normal, it can not be possible. some time fasting blood sugure may be nornal but PP raise in diabetes. you get blood sugur from reliable lab.
1) Instrument error. In that case repeat the Hba1c test from two different standard labs. Along with Fasting and post meal tests.
2) Assuming the test is correct - It shows that your sugars shoot up at sometime during 24 hours (not necessarily during fasting and post breakfast or post lunch times, but say post dinner, pre dinner times. Inshort, some time during 24hrs.)
I'd advise you to investigate yourself with your physician/diabetologist/endocrinologist and recheck Fasting, Post meal sugars, Hba1c and thyroid profile from a standard lab.
Hope this helps.
Regards.
