How Accurate Are HIV RNA PCR And 4th Gen Tests At 13 And 21 Days, Respectively?

I performed oral sex ( m2’m) with a condom on another guy. To my best knowledge, the condom did not break however the guy ejaculated in the condom and I continued to suck him. Hey I have performed hiv rna pcr qualitative test on 13days and hiv 4th gen combo test at 21 days. And both are negative. I have been getting low grade fever and diarrhoea for the last 3-4 days. Reading online I read about seroconversion symptoms and I’m scared. I wanted to know how accurate is the hiv rna test and 4th gen test at the given time frames. Are these seroconversion symptoms? I’m very scared.

Hello,

Oral sex (m2m) with a partner who is going through active infection can cause seroconversion symptoms. Get done repeat HIV antibody test. This test looks for antibodies the body makes in response to the virus. However, it can take a few weeks (up to 3 months) after exposure for the body to produce enough antibodies for detection. You can get repeat NAT, as it is the most sensitive test but is usually reserved for specific circumstances.

If you suspect you’ve been exposed to HIV or are experiencing symptoms of seroconversion, you are advised to get clinically examined by a GP & get properly tested. Early detection allows earlier treatment. Your treatment will depend on the diagnosis made. in case you are not infected, do not go for (m2m) relations, it is risky.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
