I recently had a baby on October first and they didn't remove my staples until the 12th... when they did my c section came open about 1 inch and it was very infected. they have been packing it once a day every day but it is slowly closing... the doctor said I may have to get it surgically closed... how would they do this? Is there a way they could knock me out before? I have high anxiety and I have panic attacks a lot...
Please do not get anxious about this. These issues are not uncommon after section. If there is infection then it causes the wound to open up and discharge comes out from it. So it needs to be dressed till the discharge subsides and then when there is a healthy tissue visible, it may need to be closed again[ called secondary closure] using either sutures or staples as per the case.
Please do not worry. It will get healed soon. Usually it is done using a local anesthesia where you are completely conscious only the local part is anesthetised. However the decision depends upon your doctor and you may discuss this with them. It will be a painless procedure so please do not worry.
