How Are Frostbites Treated?

Hi! I think i may have a frostbite/frostnip. I was skiing in -25 C and was really cold in nose and toes. I didnt realize it could be frostbite so i just continued skiing. When i came home i saw that my nose was red and i thought i burned myself in the sun. This was 3 days ago and my nose still has a red circle on it, what should i do?

Hi, thank you for your concern. First of all, handle the area with extreme care and avoid rubbing. Put on bulky dressing with sterile gauze after applying aloe vera cream. Apply moist heat with lukewarm water of temperature not more than 100 degree F. Prophylactic antibiotic treatment with coamoxyclav (dose according to your weight, often 625mg twice daily) should be started. Check for local numbness. If numbness is more, immediately consult your local surgeon. For pain management, paracetamol or ibuprofen may be taken. Avoid topical antibiotic cream. Maintain good oral hydration. Avoid any form of tobacco.Good luck for your recovery. Thanks and regards.
