Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can severe Intracranial Hypertension Be Treated?
my 18 yr old son just got diagnosed with CRP for symptoms he s had for 4 years, and received a prescription for minocycline. The restrictions of the medication are not consuming dairy within 2-3 hours before and after, will be difficult to enforce along with even taking twice a day for the next couple months. He also has a terrible diet and could lose 15 pounds. Should I tell him to quit consuming milk while he is on this medication, or give the med a chance with his normal routine and see if improvement occurs?

Hello and welcome,
Tetracycline, doxycicline and minocycline are the main tetracycline group antibiotics. According to FDA (Food and Drug Administration) when a patient is taking tetracycline dairy products (such as milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream) should be avoided one hour before or two hours after. But minocycline and doxycycline can be taken with a milk (Please refer page 20 https://www.fda.gov/downloads/Drugs/.../.../UCM229033.pdf). Your son can safely consume milk.
I hope the above information will be helpful for you. Please, feel free to ask me if there is anything else you need to know.
Thank you, Malik Amonov MD
