How Can Asperger's Syndrome And ADHD Be Treated?

Sir,
My son is 7 years old. I think he is suffering from asperger's syndrome and mild ADHD. He is very intelligent but does not want to do his routine work. Don't want to brush teeth, tries to control his stool as much as possible. Don't speak a word in front of outsiders. When I take him to my office he doesn't tell even his name to any one nor does he drink water for 3 hrs. In school every teacher complains he doesn't talk. Don't complete his classwork. Don't mix up with classmates. does classwork after too much pressure but while writing stops after writing a line and thinks something. Again she has to tell him to write . At home never follows instructions, dont want to read, write and eat. Too slow in every work.
I am very worried for him. Is there any therapy available to help my son come out of these problems? Plz suggest.

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi,

Treatments include:

●Therapy – Different types of therapy can teach children how to manage problems related to their disorder. For example, a child might have therapy to:

•Help control anxiety caused by loud noises or changes in his or her routine

•Learn how to recognize and respond to emotions

•Learn to understand the tone of voice and body language

●Help with school – Children with Asperger syndrome might need extra help and support in school, especially with staying organized. They also often need help with reading and writing.

●Medicines – Doctors might prescribe medicines to treat conditions associated with Asperger syndrome.

These conditions can include anxiety, depression, and problems paying attention. But medicines should only be used after therapy and education supports are in place.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Sumanth Amperayani, Pediatrician, Pulmonology
