Hello, my partner of 9 years returned home (on Thursday if this week) from a doctor s appt. and told me he was HIV + and had Hepatitis C. He will be referred to an HIV specialist next week. I am at a loss to know what to do next, I went to my MD s office yesterday and had a test done but wont know for about a week or so. I used to be very knowledgeable and update on HIV stuff, but have not been for so long. Is any literature, books, etc that you can recommend? I am very scared. thank you, Dennis
If your partner tested positive, then you should undergo the tests. For HIV you should get HIV 1/2 antigen antibody test done. This test has high sensitivity and can detect HIV conclusively.
HIV RNA PCR is other very sensitive test and can detect HIV even in first week of exposure. Avoid unprotected sexual intercourse till you get results of test.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Seikhoo Bishnoi
