Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
ive been on Lipitor for over 20 yrs and I have decided to stop I have reduced my 60 mg pill to 40 mg for past month now should I cut the 40mg pill in half and gradually reduce to 20 mg and then slowly wean myself off from there, as its a decision ive decided to take as I want off...
As you mentioned that you are taking lipitor ( atorvastatin ) 60 mg / day , gradually reduced to 40 mg , now up to 20 mg and at last on alternate day and thrice in a week . Once in a week and stop . This is the best way to wean off the drug. Lipid lowering agents ( atorvastatin ) is advised patient who require >45 % reduction in LOW DENSITY LIPOPROTEIN( LDL). In my opinion ,you have achieved your target much earlier , so you stop it. Good luck.
