I was prescribed Mupirocin Ointment 2% for a staph skin infection. I was told I could use the ointment in my nose as well to decolonize. I saw on the Mupirocin leaflet that it is not for intranasal use. Is it safe for me to use the ointment in my nose? Why is my doctor saying its fine when the leaflet says you shouldn t?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You can use it in the vestibule area anteriorly. Any contact with nasal mucosa must be avoided as it can be washed off backward with the nasal secretions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
