How Can STIs Be Transmitted Through Contaminated Water?
Hello, I m a junior working on my Really? essay and I am researching diseases that can be spread in public restrooms. I ve found articles discussing how you can receive and STI from unsanitary water sources used in public restrooms, as well as water barbor shops use to clense their scissors. I m curious as to how an STI can survive in water, when it doesn t have a host..? I m really confused on how all of these facts and studies line up. Could you please answwer my question if possible?
Though generally STI organisms are highly fragile and can not exist outside human body or body fluids, it can be viable outside the body in the spilled body fluids till it gets dried. When the infected body fluids gets mixed with water, the drying time gets delayed and the infectivity lasts for more time. Especially it is true in temperate climates. A toilet seat, barber's instruments are rarely be contagious with STI organism. But this is not common and only a rare possibility. Dr S.Murugan
