Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had a colonscopy and a polyp was removed and sent for biopsy. Today I was told that it was pre cancerous. What will the next step be. My Dr. said the report said it was not real small. Will I have to have another colonscopy and if so how soon.
Hi. Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Once a colonic polyp is found to be pre-cancerous, there is a set protocol that your Gastroenterolgist must have told you and you should follow the protocol as advised by your Gastroenterologist. There has to be a regular review at an interval as advised. CT scan of the abdomen. Regular cancer blood markers like CEA and so on. Regular colonoscopy. Change in diet to pure vegetarian, high fiber diet. Stop smoking and alcohol. Mild stool softeners to keep stools soft. IF further tests and review investigations indicate cancer an appropriate therapy as guided at the Oncology unit should help you to have possible cure and long life.
