Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a knot under my armpit that I think is a boil. It feels like a boil and the drawing medicine for boils has been bringing it down slowly. its hard under the skin and red , the skin has been pealing little by little and its started to itch a lot and I have a burning sort of skin ripping feeling when I move my arm. It was the size of silver dollar about two weeks ago and now its gone down to the size of maybe a quarter. Just wondering is the skin pealing and itching and burning feeling normal for a boil under the armpit and can it go away with out having to drain it? Also will a boil feel hard under the skin and will it be red in color under the armpit?
Hello welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
You can have boil like superficial skin infection. If boil is big in size than incision and drainage is needed. Topical Neosporin cream can be applied. If lesion is small than incision not needed. Oral antibiotic course of cefadroxil can be prescribed for that for five days. If you post photo of your lesion than further comment can be given.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
