How Can A Dermoid Cyst On The Right Ovary Be Treated?
I have a 5.3 x 3.8 cm dermoid cyst on my right ovary. Water density cysts are present in both ovaries, measuring 2.9 cm in diameter on the right & 2.5 x 2.4 cm on the left . My doctor said I should have both my ovaries removed. I just have a slight pressure on the right side, no pain or other symptoms. I am 68 years old post menopausal. I would like a second opinion whether I should go through with the laparoscopy now or wait & check on them later. Thank you in advance for your answer.
Hi there, I have understood your concern and I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.
First of all do not panic.
If the diagnosis of dermoid cyst is done from USG alone, please get MRI of the pelvic area done. This will still more definitely tell about the dermoid cyst extent and other water filled cysts.
You can very go ahead for laparoscopic cyst removal. There is no need for the removal of ovaries. Only cystectomy can be planned and ovaries can be saved. Dermoid cyst needs to be removed as early as possible, as there are chances of it getting malignant later on. I hope this answer helps you. Thanks. Dr. Purushottam Neurgaonkar
