How Can A Drug Addict Be Treated During The Post Surgical Period?
my partner had a stroke and then he had a steel valve put in. open heart surgery. before his stroke he had a drug addiction . he injected morphine maybe 60 to 90 mg a day. and while he was in hospital he degreased his dosage to 10 mg a day and taking orally. after all this happening he has discharged himself from hospital and has become very angry and has pushed the ones that care about him away. worried family.
family support is very critical in the recovery of a patient post-surgery, no matter what his/her attitude is. his morphine addiction must be stopped. a consultation with a pain management doctor, will help for proper management of his pain after surgery, and not resorting to drugs that provokes his/her addiction. also, psychiatric consult might be of help to the patient and his/her immedicate support, for emotional counseling, especially if the support system starts to experience difficulty in dealing or talking with the patient. patient's recovery is case to case basis, a big factor would be dependent on the patient's com-morbidities/health status, and cooperation with the current management.
hope this helps.
good day!!
