How Can A Lump On The Right Side Of The Neck Be Treated?
I had the left side of my thyroid removed about 8 years ago because of large lump. I have been on a small dose thyroid med for about 6 years because my blood test showed low readings. During a ultrasound several weeks because of lump at the base of my throat, it showed the right side of my thyroid had a lump on it. Do I need to have it removed totally?
From your description I can deduce that you probably had a Multinodular goiter. The definitive treatment of this condition is thyroidectomy or RAI therapy. Surgery to remove all or most of the thyroid can be carried out, particularly if a multi-nodular goiter is large and the patient feels it is unsightly. Total or partial thyroidectomy is decide by the treating endocrinologist for every specific case with multi-nodular goiter considering all the ultrasound features of the goiter, the hormone test results and medical history of the patient.
Don't worry, you may not do surgery again. Radio-iodine therapy can be a good/reasonable solution in your case.
Hope this is helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care.
