Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 70, and was just diagnosed with microvascular brain disease (I had an MRI yesterday). I have been struggling with on/off balance issues for a good ten years, which seems to be more prevalent. I used to work out at a gym twice a week, but now do not feel safe doing this. I have chosen to attend beginning Yoga classes nearby instead to work on this issue. I am experiencing some memory issues, but not extreme when compared with friends in my age group. I have experienced migraines for years. They seem to go in cycles. What should I be aware of? Do I need a change if diet? I don t have high blood pressure. I do receive oxygen at night to keep my O2 levels normal during night and day. Is there anything that you would recommend that I do or take?
Hello, To avoid progression of microvascular disease you want to do all the things that help reduce cholesterol. Keep your weight as close to normal as possible, do not smoke or drink alcohol, exercise as tolerated safely, do not eat fried foods, eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, do not eat meat more than once a day. I also wonder why you are on oxygen at night, do you have sleep apnea and really need to be on CPAP. Sleep apnea also increases the risk of vascular disease. Regards
