How Can A Painful Lump At The Injury Site Be Treated?
I deeply bruised my right calf and it caused a sizable lump (this was on March 3). It was painful but the swelling is going down and is less painful. It seems it is now causing swelling in my ankle/foot and some slight discoloration as the day goes on. I am due to take an International Flight on Friday and just want to make sure it s okay.
It looks like due to deeply bruising the calf there has been an injury to the soft tissues and slight discoloration and lump seems to be due to hematoma formation and it occurs due to rupture of blood vessels and accumulation of blood in the soft tissues. Pain is due to inflamed tissues only. Taking a long time flight can increase swelling and pain so proper management should be done. I would suggest you Do cool compresses over the area. You can take an anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen. Apply Heparin gel as it will help in resolving the lump soon. Elevate your leg while lying down and also limit exertion. In case of no improvement in a week consult an Orthopedician and get evaluated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
