How Can A Sore In The Nostril Be Treated?

Hi, I have had a sore in my left nostril which seems to be on the cartilage and it seems to be splitting. it is not bleeding or oozing. Becomes worse and more sensitive if my nostril becomes dry. I have applied some Vaseline which help by keeping it moist. Any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Sore in the nostril can be due to infection inside the nostril leading to a sore or an abscess formation.
If it is in the form of a hanging lump then it can be a nasal polyp.
So first of all consult an Otorhinolaryngologist and get evaluated.
In case if there is infection then you can be advised a course of antibiotics along with antibiotic nasal drops for relief.
If it is a polyp then steroid drops can help in shrinkage of the polyp or else the polyp has to be surgically removed if it does not get better with steroid inhalation..

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
