How Can A Sunburn Be Treated?

I was in the sun for 10 minutes and my skin became very red and broke out into quarter sized white patches. It happened two days in a row. I am not on any new medication. I was on Bactrim 3 weeks ago for a wound infection but my research indicated that it stays in your system for 2-3 days. I have been experiencing some intermitent itching for about 6 weeks occurring anywhere that is just irritating. Any ideas?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If your skin has a tendency to burn on sun exposure. You should be applying a sun block every time you are out in the sun. Preferably 15 minutes before stepping out of your house. Advice is to reapply sunscreen every 3 hours. If you already have a sunburn you can apply topical steroid preparations like Mometasone over these areas that will help in healing. Note if you have the itching on sun exposed sites or where you sweat a lot, twice daily bath may help alleviate this problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
