How Can Abdominal Bloating And Gas Be Treated While Having Paraplegia?

My father is paraplegic, has been for 38 years. He has issues with being able to have a regular bowel movement. He is gassy and bloated all the time. Any suggestions that would possibly help him have a regular movement? He takes miralax daily but sometimes it does not work.

Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health concern

Since your father is a paraplegic, it is difficult to get regular bowel movement. However, bowel movements can be promoted by eating high fiber diet like oat, bran, rice, vegetables and fruits. Continue miralax. He can also take Bisacodyl 15 mg once daily to promote bowel movements. And also drink plenty of fluids. Avoid caffeine.
