Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It is likely a
gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). In GERD inappropriate closure of lower esophageal sphincter result in acid reflux into esophagus. The acid irritates esophageal mucosa causing pain, heartburn, or hoarseness etc.
Omeprazole decreases
gastric acid production and helps with your symptoms.
I would recommend you to continue medication along with the life style modifications: avoid foods that increase acidity of your stomach such as alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, chocolate, or any spicy food. Try to lose weight if obese. Usually
acid reflux happens once a person in a horizontal position e.g. lying on the bed. Therefore, avoid eating within 3 hours before bedtime and sleep in a bed with a pillow elevating your head 6 to 8 inches.
If you have the disease fro a long time (more than 5 years), difficulty or pain with swallowing, any signs of anemia (easy fatigability, pallor) or recent
weight loss you should talk with your doctor about endoscopic evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you,
Malik Amonov MD
