How Can Acute Post Nasal Drip With Phlegm Be Treated?

hi, im 15 y/o male, and i have had a post nasal drip for a whole year now and I am suspicious if it might drip into my lungs, cause whenever i force myself to couch, I get rales (bubbling, rattling sounds) , and my voice sounds and feels unclean, and when I lay on my back, then i get a load phlegm in my throat, along with the unclean voice and i have to force myself to couch it out. and once i couch the phlegm comes out, my voice gets clear. and then, Lately , i have had mild sweats along with warm sensations in my body, like my stomach feels very warm, even to touch, but no fever. Could it be possible that the phlegm went into my lungs silently, without any couch reflex? If not, then what about the bubbling/ rattling sounds in my lungs AND the unclean voice? Please, doc i m really concerned!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is a sign of sinusitis. A short course of antibiotics can be started preferably Amoxiclav for five to seven days. An antihistamine like cetirizine can also be taken.

Do steam inhalation to open up clogged sinuses. Generally, the symptoms will settle in couple of days. If symptoms persist better to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
