How Can Aggressive Behaviour In A Child Be Managed?

I am having difficulty reaching a 7 year old who is very intelligent, but very emotional when it comes to correcting or redirecting without severe emotional outbursts to the point of self harming. He is very controlling and has major melt downs with any kind of conficts. He has not been evaluated as of yet. I am trying to find ways to help this child learn to interact with others and to find ways to calm him down before he reaches the point of self harm.
