How Can Agitation Be Managed While On Cymbalta And Amitriptyline?
my 81 year old mother has dementia good some days bad others, but my question is that she is taking cymbalta for depression and amitriptylin for severe headaches, to me as i searched it seems like they are both for depression, and she gets agitated with us not like her before these two drugs, what should we do for her.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Both are antidepressants Duloxetine is SSRI, Amitriptyline is tricyclic antidepressants. Both are effective in depression and neuropathic pain. Both may present symptoms like nausea, insomnia, tiredness, headache, etc. If episode or mood elevation may present like mania it is a possibility that he may be suffering from bipolar disorder. Better to intake only one antidepressant. Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly. Take care.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
