Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother is 82 and has rectal melanoma. She has a tumor the size of 3, maybe 4 walnuts in her anal canal. She is already experiencing constipation. She doesn t want to have surgery. She has many other health issues. If she doesn t have surgery, what are the stages to come and in what time frame?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
A melanoma that large has most likely already metastasized to other parts of the body. Removing the tumor with a surgery would keep her from having an obstruction in the colon but would most likely not be curative. If nothing is done she would most likely die from intestinal obstruction in the next few months.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
