Hello my dad is 66 years old. He has a hernia that is over 20 years. On April 1st he was coughing so hard that he ripped a hole in his stomach so he was rushed to Metropolitain Methodis Hospital in San Antonio,TX he survived the surgery on the stomach but now his hernia is hard, red, and inflamed. The surgeon doesn’t want to touch the hernia cuz it is incarcerated and abdomen is too small. Now the surgeon wants to drain the hernia. What are your thoughts. My name is Monica and my fathers name is Edward
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Incarceration is a complication of hiatal hernia which can be life-threatening if untreated. It can be leading to severe pain, nausea, vomiting, and the inability to have a bowel movement or pass gas. I suggest to get the surgeon opinion for the treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
