Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 71 and have taken Naproxen Sodium or Ibuprofen, or Acetaminophen for arthritis pain. I don't take pain pills daily, but usually when the weather changes to damp or cold, or when I do more physically that I should, for example gardening. I also work at Walmart in the Bakery where I'm required to lift raw dough boxes of approximately 25 lbs and by the end of the week usually take a couple of pills to finish the shift. Is one of these pain pills better than the others? Sandy
Arthritis pain can be relieved by the anti-inflammatory meds you already take: naproxen, ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
Start with acetaminophen, 2 tbs; if not working alternate with ibuprofen or naproxen. Monitor your blood pressure (bp) as these pain killers cause your bp to raise.
Apply cold compresses on the affected joint, especially knee or feet. Apply analgesic cream to relieve the pain.
Take glucosamine and hialuronic acid supplements to ease inflammation over time
If these are not working, should discuss with your doctor to start injection therapy for a few days until pain is dominated.
Wish fast recovery.
