How Can Blurred Vision After A Cataract Surgery Be Treated?

I had cataract surgery on my left eye on January 30th. I had a post op by another doctor in the same group. I told him that I had flashing lights, a curtain of black dots, a headache over the eye and lid, and extremely blurred vision. He said that those things were normal. Over the next three days, my vision became more and more cloudy, more dots to the point of nearly no vision. I called, left a message, heard back the next day, now day 6. The surgeon said I had a raging inflammation. Ordered drops and said to come back the next day. The next day, he said I needed to see a Retina Specialist. I had to have surgery that day and might lose my eye. In your opinion, were any of those doctors negligent not to consider an infection earlier?

Hello,

Refraction is to be done for blurred vision. The stage of cataract is to be diagnosed then operation can be done for extra capsular or intra-capsular. I will suggest phako emulsification since it takes less time and complication are less.

Post-operative check up by surgeon is to be done. Steroid drop and lubricating drop to be applied in operated eye. Monitor visual acuity. When advised the medication can be stopped. Consultation with retina surgeon is required if there is problem in retina like tear peripheral detachment.

If there is impending infection, then ofloxacin eye drop and subconjunctival gentamycin and steroid injection is recommended. Confirm about infection by examination of operating surgeon. There may be normal recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashok Kumar Dash
