Thanks for contacting HCM. dear patient you have not mentioned why you had colon surgery and what type of surgery was it. Also you have not mentioned what laxative you are taking. Some laxative are habit forming and some are vary strong purgatives which cause emptying of not only rectum but also a part of colon, as a result you feel more constipated next day and can't do without laxatives. Also it makes you increase your laxative doses. In general Whatever you eat will decide you frequency and ease of motions. i would suggest that you need to add lots of fruits, green leafy vegetables and salad in your diet along with whole wheat bread and cereals. For example - in breakfast take oats with almonds, raisins and fruits. 2 hours later eat two fruits(if it is possible to eat the skin of fruits then do eat the skin along without fruit). with lunch take a large plate of salad along with whole grains and steamed vegetables and curd. Then in evening again eat few fruits. In dinner eat again a large plate of salad and rest of it similar to lunch. At bed time take 300-400 gms of papaya. drink plenty of liquids and exercise regularly. Hope this will help you. regards.
