Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 70 y/o wife has newly diagnosed invasive ductal breast cancer, ER/PR + hER2 NEGATIVE 7mm in size, scheduled for lumpectomy, post op radiation Rx and possible hormone blockage therapy pending more genetic testing. No family hx of breast ca. There are retrospective human studies and prospective animal studies that strongly suggest perioperative anti inflammatory medication such as ketolorac can reduce breast cancer recurrence as well as other NSAIDS. What say you?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Since the size of the swelling is small no need to remove entire breast and only lumpectomy is needed. You can continue chemo and radiation after the procedure. There is always a chance of recurrence as the entire breast left intact and only lump is removed. But the chances are grossly reduced following chemo. NSAIDS doesn’t prevent recurrence and the studies shows poor results.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
