How Can Bronchitis Be Diagnosed?

I am a 61 year old male who was diagnosed with bronchitis for the first time in my life last May. Ever since then, it feels different when I cough, as though it never went completely away. i do not have health insurance right now, so I have not been back to a doctor. Is there a way to diagnose myself? I think I may still have it, although not as severe a condition. Thank you, Tom

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello,

Sorry to say but there is no way of diagnosing bronchitis by your own. PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) is a must for the diagnosis of bronchitis. PFT will also tell you about the severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only. So better to consult pulmonologist and get done PFT. If PFT is showing obstructive defect then its bronchitis for sure.

You may need inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone). Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
