How Can Chronic Arthritis In The Knees Be Treated?
Hello, I m a 65 years female with chronic arthritis on the knees. I m always in pain and no matter how much I exercise my knees, nothing seems to help, I take therapy, had a series of injections and I m still in a lot of pain, specially when I put pressure on the knees, like getting up, going up and down the stairs and when I walk no more than 3 or 4 blocks, I have to stop and stretch my legs. My doctor said that he doesn t see that a knee replacement won t help much since my pain is from arthritis. Should I go have a second opinion?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Chronic arthritis of joint may lead to loss of cartilage lead to exposure of nerves under cartilage lead to pain. It is difficult to reduce pain (frankly speaking) but with drugs like pain killers or calcium, vitamin D supplementation, glycosaminoglycans and condrotine sulfate tablet consumption may ease little. Physiotherapy may useful for muscle strength improvement. If symptoms not improved joint replacement is the final option. Avoid standing from sitting position, use life rather than stairs.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
