Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Chronic Cough And Shortness Of Breath Be Treated?
I recently recovered from a cold, however I retained a cough and a difficulty with catching my breath when climbing stairs. Probably bronchitis. I am a 67 year old male who has been a runner for the last 35 years, so it is frustrating to be unable to even jog, and the bronchitis disturbs my normal sleep. Any suggestions on treatment ( condition has persisted for about 6 weeks, with some swelling in my feet).
As per your clinical history is concerned, please follow like this:
1) Do a clinical examination by your treating Doctor [pulmonologist] and to confirm it do few investigations [CBC with differential, Chest X-ray, and sputum culture].
2) Discuss about prescribed medications like [antibiotics and cough syrup] and add other medications as per investigation reports.
Do follow lifestyle modifications like this:
1) Try to avoid cigarette smoke. Cigarette smoke increases your risk of chronic bronchitis.
3) Try to wash your hands. To reduce your risk of catching a viral infection, wash your hands frequently and get in the habit of using hand sanitizers.
4) Wear a surgical mask when facing crowds.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
