How Can Chronic Cough Be Treated?

Mom is 97 years old with cough for almost two days. I remember her doctor saying only 1 teaspoon every four hours when she coughed all night once on just Musinex without a coughsuppressant. She is diabetic. We have diabetic tussin maximum strength. Is 1 teaspoon every four hours best? Sounds like lerengitis. No fever. Vitals ok. I will call her palliative care doctor tomorrow. I will check her at 2:00 a.m.
