Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son aged 23years is suffering from depression is under treatement by a psychatrist since 3years was on zosert for about 2 years and on clifronil for another one year .he was an engineering student he is unable to study now . he is not getting cured . instead he developed acute side effects of the medicne. now we are giving him ayurvedic medicne . the side effects are gone now . but his depression is not cured. I need your suggetion as to where I have approche to get him treated and get cured.
He is having chronic depression since last 2 years and was on sertraline and clonazepam with poor response. He has left studies and also developed side effects from medicines. As per my opinion if an individual fails to respond to one medicine then he might need either change in medicine or to add some other medicine which can act as augmentation agent. Addition of Bupropion, Buspirone to conventional antidepressant will help to improve symptoms. Apart from that supplements of vitamin B12 and omega 3 fatty acids will help to treat resistant depression.
In resistant depression cognitive therapy has proven roles. I would advise you to consult his psychiatrist again for treatment. Ayurvedic treatment can help but there are no supportive research studies available for this. Consulting a psychiatrist will be a better option.
Thanks, hope this helps you
