Sudden onset of two cold sores, one in middle of bottom lip that is also causing swelling and redness. Three white pimple looking marks on inside lower left lip. Tried Carmex and tea tree oil today. Had first strep throat diagnosis last month. I m 62 never had these sores as bad as now. Ate shrimp scampi, but have not reacted before. Drink a bottle of diet tonic a day and wonder about quinine? Fresh pineapple? Had fruit cup with pineapple, strawberries and mango...too acidic? Symptoms are here...how do I treat tomorrow? B

Cold sores are small, painful, fluid-filled blisters or sores that appear on the lips, mouth, or nose that are caused by a virus. The sores can be painful and usually last a few days. Unlike most viral infections, the cold sore virus is not completely eliminated by the body defenses. For this reason, cold sores often recur. Usually caused by herpes simplex virus. They may present dorment for year's in ganglion cells may recurre after immunity supression. Need acyclovir cream or acyclovir gel for local application. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
