Hello,

Drinking plenty, exercising and having plenty of fiber are healthy habits that may help with constipation but in many patients, these are not enough. It is important to help with constipation if the above measures do not help enough. Taking lactulose syrup for a few days to soften the stools may help and then repeat as needed (there is no problem with regular use of lactulose).

There are other treatments for quick relieve of constipation like enemas or bisacodyl tablets but are not recommended to be used regularly or often.

Any constipation that is not responding to treatment needs good evaluation from the doctor. Also you need to follow the instructions of your doctor related to follow up visits due to the history of polyps.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
