How Can Dementia And Alzheimer's Disease Be Diagnosed?
Took mom to see a neurologist today for a dementia/ Alzheimer's diagnosis. The visit consisted of her being asked about 5 questions( we already had that from her Internist). I was disappointed that it wasn't a more comphensive exam and that an MRI wasn't ordered
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Dementia or Alzheimer's disease can be diagnosed by clinical evaluation and examination. If necessary, imaging investigations like CT scan or MRI scan would be advised. Otherwise, most of the evaluation is based on interaction with the patient by asking questions related to memory, as these conditions are primarily related to loss of memory. Kindly take a second opinion by consulting Neurologist or Psychiatrist, if needed. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S.
