Hi , my 90 year old dad broke his hip and had surgery . He had a cAtheter put in and it s been two weeks and he hasn t been able to urinate on his own . Every time they take it out they see bladder retention and put it back in. I am so worried and he is so upset .
The catheter needs to be clamped for increasingly longer periods. Eg initially it can be clamped for an hour , this can then be increased. This allows to bladder re learn how to hold urine
After this has been done for a period of time, then the catheter can be removed
I hope this helps
