How Can Dryness In The Eyes Be Treated?

I have been on Travatan z for at least 18 years. Three years ago my glaucoma Dr put me on Alphagan P and my eyes became red and I developed congunctavitis. It has been hard to get my eyes back to normal. I do have dry eyes also. Right now I m being treated for rosacea because my skin around my eyes get red, especially when my eyes are dry. Should I be taken off of Travatan z

Hi,welcome to HCM. I have seen many glaucoma patients complaining of the persisting redness and the dryness in the eyes due to long term Travatan-Z drops.

1.Firstly,your Glaucoma doctor has been monitoring you for the past 18 years and prescribed you these eye drops to maintain a good eye pressure and the nerve.I would suggest DONOT stop either of the drops without his/her consultation, but talk to him about alternative therapy/surgical procedures.Although there are multiple glaucoma medications available, sometimes your doctor might suggest you to continue the same drops as your eyes respond well to these combination drugs.
2.Secondly,I have seen many patients using OTC lubricant eye drops along with glaucoma drops for dry eye relief. There are multiple brands available in market.Since you mentioned that you are treated for Rosacea, the preservative free lubricant drops are recommended for a better relief. You can also use the other brands more frequently/as per need.

3.Also talk to your doctor about the option of punctal plugs, if the lubricant drops doesn't help you.

The most important information is that your Glaucoma medications are prescribed and has to be used only as recommended by your doctor.Keep them aside and do not mix with the lubricants.
Hope this helps.Take care.
