How Can Elevated BP Be Treated?

My mother in law has been in blood pressure meds for years. It s been going up so last month the Dr doubled it. Not helping. It s staying around 195/110 and she s even taken extra meds on her own. I know she s had a terrible headache for at least 4 days. She says she is going to wait until Monday and see before she calls the dr. I think it sounds like an emergency myself.

Hello,

Blood pressure above 180/110 is considered hypertensive urgency (or emergency). She must seek medical help in the emergency room as complications risks are high. Antihypertensives peroral or even IV is required.

After lowering the blood pressure in the emergency room and excluding any complications a combination antihypertensive medication is required (like Exforge HCT). The target blood pressure is below 140/90.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
