I have glaucoma in one eye, does not tolerate eye drops well so my ophthalmologist recommends trabeculectomy. I understand the trab benefit is only for 3-5 years and cannot be redone. Are there any other better longer term ways to reduce IOP than trabeculectomy? Maybe istent, express, trabeculoplasty?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Stent surgeries are recommended for a very intractable glaucoma . Which all eye drops have you used . may I suggest some alternatives ? I am a firm believer in the fact that if something can be controlled by medication we shouldn't rush into surgeries because any type of surgery is a risk you are taking.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
