How Can Headache And Shoulder Ache Be Treated?

Hello. I ve had a headache/migraine along with shoulder and neck pain for 3 days now. I ve been taking Excedrin Migraine and I tried Tylenol but it isn t helping. The headache/migraine is getting so bad that it s moved towards my eye area a well. Is there a different OTC that I should try or does this warrant a trip to the ER?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Before going to the ER I would first try an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen (Advil). That is because from your description the pain may probably be related to neck issues and anti-inflammatory medication are more suitable. Tylenol has no such effect, Excedrin has some aspirin among other ingredients which has that effect, but it's a small dose, so I would try Ibuprofen. A muscle relaxant like Flexeril may help as well, but not sure whether it's available as OTC in the US.

I hope you feel better soon.
