How Can Hearing Loss Be Treated?

I was told by an ENT DR that the flu shoot caused my severe vertigo that put me in the hospital or a week that lasted 3 months after shot. My hearing was fine for about 5 years then gradually got worse- now 18 years later I have extreme hearing loss in 1 ear and horrible clarity of words making it difficult to understand and hearing aides did not help with the clarity. I believe the flu shot started this as the EMT Dr saw influenza in my my system at that time - what is your opinion?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Sorry about your health problem . Flu shot (influenza) may cause temporary hearing loss due to influenza is usually the result of congestion and will go away once you recover. However, in some cases the virus attacks your ears directly, resulting in sudden and sometimes permanent hearing loss. If it is sensoneural hearing loss difficult to recover, need hearing aid or implant support.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
